47 The Rain are black stoneware teacups glazed in a deep, black-flecked blue — form and color coming together to evoke the fall of raindrops into water during a heavy storm. Each cup is trimmed with a series of tight yet gentle freehand ridges on the outside surface; below them, the foot of the cup is left unglazed, allowing for the beauty of the black stoneware clay to be felt by the drinker’s hands even when out of their sight. Meanwhile, the smooth interior surface serves as a deep-hued well for the flavors and aromas within to unfurl.
