46 The Ferry in Draft Blue is a black stoneware vase glazed in deep, black-flecked blue. Hand-thrown to evoke the shape of a ship’s bow seen head-on, its surprising volume is perhaps unsurprisingly balanced — stable and weighty like the hull of a ship. The top of the vessel is gently concave, opening the vase’s perfectly round mouth in the center of this shallow bowl — making it versatile for multiple creative uses, from desk organization to flower arrangement.
The beauty of the black stoneware clay peeks out from under the glaze at the vase’s foot — echoing the dark riverbed sitting still and unseen, far beneath the submerged draft of a ship’s hull.
Draft (n.) the stretch of a ship’s hull that sits between the waterline and the keel, indicating how much of the hull is submerged
