39 The Boy and The River is a 72-page perfect-bound book written by Shaina Yang — containing “The Boy and The River” short story, the six poems composed for the collection, and a foreword from Shaina documenting the process of creating this collection of Chores and describing how the collection’s objects and the story are intertwined.
In addition, the book features otherwise-unpublished photography both taken for the season and set to page by Anna Letson, beautifully integrating imagery with the written content — resulting in a carefully-designed object that invites slow perusal and repeated revisiting. A curious spine hints at the secret contained within: two echoing versions of one book contained in a single object for the reader to discover.
Both an art object in its own right and the only full record of this collection’s writing, this limited edition of 100 hand-stamped and numbered books reveals the stories at the heart of Chores this 2025 season.
